Threatened and Endangered Species

http://www.208.106.225.174/files/Threatened%20&%20end.jpgGrette Associates provides ESA support on several levels ranging from informal and Section 7 consultations to formal consultation and programmatic biological assessments.  We also conduct technical research to support our ESA evaluations and represent our clients in regional watershed efforts. This comprehensive understanding and involvement with ESA issues affords our clients an efficient permitting process.

Our biologists have prepared numerous Biological Evaluations for terrestrial and aquatic species to fulfill the requirements of Section 7 of the ESA.  Our experience with ESA has proven invaluable for municipalities, Ports, Tribes, and private industry for facilitating project planning and implementation.  We also provide data and technical support to assist local, State and Federal agencies in management decisions and species listings.  The nature of aquatic projects in the Pacific Northwest is such that much of what we do is affected or informed by ESA.

Featured Projects

Pierce County Terminal Expansion Project, Port of Tacoma
The PCT Expansion included dredging of 2,500,000 cubic yards of clean sediment, construction of a new pier, and extension of an existing pier to expand a shipping terminal.  Our staff prepared all ESA documentation, including a Biological Assessment, and managed the formal ESA consultation and mitigation planning for this development project.

Olympic View Marina, Olympic View Marina LLC
The Olympic View Marina partners propose to replace an existing dilapidated marina in Seabeck with a state of the art facility that supports the current market for recreational boating in Hood Canal and meets current health and safety requirements.  During project planning, Grette Associates helped design a facility and plan a construction program that would avoid and minimize risks to endangered species.  We also prepared a Biological Evaluation and manage informal consultation with the Corps and Services.  Habitat issues, specifically eelgrass and forage fish spawning, were of primary concern as were impacts associated with construction noise.

Sturtevant Creek Culvert Replacement, City of Bellevue Utilities
Bellevue utilities replaced a culvert on Sturtevant Creek in order to alleviate upstream flooding and to improve fish passage on the creek during high flows.  The project qualified for programmatic consultation, allowing Grette Associates to prepare a Special Project Information Form instead of a Biological Evaluation to expedite federal permitting.
