We are currently seeking an mid-level Biologist, (3-6 years’ experience), for our Gig Harbor, Washington office. This is a full-time position. This role entails a variety of office and field work, primarily in Eastern WA. Some projects may require travel throughout WA.

Mid-Level: Wetland Scientist & Permitting Specialist

Grette Associates, LLC is a well-respected environmental consulting firm established in 2002.  Our company consists of natural resource scientists, planners, and administrative staff committed to providing exceptional natural resources support for construction, permitting, and planning projects in the Pacific Northwest. We provide environmental consulting services for a wide range of clients in Washington and Oregon, including both the public and private sectors.  We have offices in Wenatchee and Gig Harbor, WA, and we are hiring a Wetlands Scientist & Permitting Specialist to join our team at our office in Gig Harbor.

You would be responsible for:

  • Wetland delineations, assessments, and feasibilities; ordinary high water mark determinations; aquatic and terrestrial habitat surveys and assessments, population studies
  • Organizing and leading field research
  • Technical writing and document development using MS Office
  • Managing projects independently, with senior staff support
  • Preparation of permit application documents related to NEPA/SEPA, Federal CWA, ESA compliance, State Hydraulic Code, SMA/GMA
  • Data collection and organization, including GIS mapping, Excel
  • Mentoring junior wetland/project staff

Required skills and experience:

  • BA/BS degree in biological sciences
  • 4-6 years’ professional experience, with at least 3 years in the consulting industry
  • Wetland delineation certification with training on the WA State Wetland Rating System
  • Familiarity with aquatic and coastal environments of the Pacific Northwest
  • Identification of local plant, fish and wildlife and their habitat
  • Experience with regulatory requirements at the Federal, State, and Local levels for projects in the aquatic environment
  • Flexibility to work long hours in inclement conditions and traverse various terrains
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and develop
  • Strong written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a small team environment
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet project deadlines and budgets
  • Around 20-30% travel to project sites
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree in biological sciences
  • Project Management
  • Professional Wetland Scientist certification
  • GIS/GPS
  • SCUBA certification

The salary range for this position is $69,000 - $98,000, commensurate with experience.
